Terms of Sale

  1. All bids are by lot numbers and by the proper bid increments. Current Scott and Foreign Catalogs are used for both price and reference when appropriate.
  2. All lots are awarded to the highest bidder at slightly over the second highest bid and may be based upon a reserve. Bid what you feel is necessary to secure the desired lot(s); your bid will be executed as competition allows. Limit bids are accepted if the bid total is more than you wish to spend. Give us your choice of lots in order and the dollar limit. Due to the work involved, limits of less than $150 are respectfully declined.
  3. A buyer’s premium of 15% will be added to all purchases.
  4. Successful bidders, who have established credit with us, will have lots and an invoice sent to them for payment. All other bidders must pay in advance upon receipt of invoice. Personal check, VISA or MasterCard (if supplied when bidding) may be used for your payment (if declined immediate payment is to be made); checks must clear before lots are sent. Title remains with Nutmeg until all invoices are Paid in Full. Risk of loss in transit shall be on the purchaser.
  5. All lots are genuine as described. In the event of a discrepancy, we must be notified within five days of receipt. An item with faults which is described as such, cannot be returned for any fault condition.
  6. No illustrated lots may be returned because of centering, margins, perforations or other factors shown in the illustrations.
  7. Covers, Postal History, Documents & Ephemera may include minor faults from postal transmission and/or reception. Minor file folds, aging, edge faults, light wrinkling or backflap damage are NOT grounds for return. Serious or unusual faults are described.
  8. Lots that contain more than 8 stamps/items may include small faults on a few of the lesser values. These are NOT noted in the descriptions and are therefore NOT reason for return.
  9. Stamps whose primary value is based upon the cancellation or postal marking may have small faults that will NOT be noted in the description and are NOT grounds for return.
  10. Successful bidders who wish to submit a lot for expertization must notify us in advance or within five days of receipt and the lot must be paid for. If a mutually acceptable expert finds a lot to be misdescribed, we will refund the full purchase price, plus the expert fee up to a maximum of $100. No lot or lots may be returned if altered. For all expertization Nutmeg will submit all lots to the appropriate authority. A certificate issued within the past 5 years is valid and returns will not be accepted upon re-submission of such item, nor any fees reimbursed.
  11. Connecticut residents will be subject to a 6% sales tax, unless resale number is on file.
  12. Insurance and postage will be added to the invoice.
  13. All 19th Century Unused stamps do not have Original Gum (OG) unless stated as such. All 20th century stamps have original gum unless otherwise stated.
  14. Telephone and FAX bids are accepted, but telephone bids must be followed by written confirmation.
  15. The placing of bids constitutes acceptance of the above terms.
