Sale 172 Cross Reference Index (.pdf)

Welcome to our Sale #172, a very special sale focused entirely upon United States and Possessions. These are from several collections including further offerings of the “South Beach” Collection and the first offerings from the “Rocky Mountain Hoard” of better individual items.

Our sale begins with a selection of Autographs and continues on with a strong and diverse section of Postal History by State. Other noteworthy sections can be seen on the front cover Feature Items or our Table of Contents and Cross Reference Index.

On the stamp side, we are especially delighted to offer many great quality rarities starting with the famous St Louis Bear Postmaster Provisional issue, and continuing with items from Banknote Special Printings, Postage Due Special Printings, Coils, 4c and 8c Bluish papers, Coil waste issues, and so many other rare items too lengthy to list here. One will also find nice quality multiples and Plate Blocks including key Commemoratives. After the front of the book, we are pleased to offer one of our best-ever offerings of back-of-book featuring great selections of issues: Airmail; Special Delivery; Postage Due; Official, Newspaper, Parcel Post and Due, Shanghai Provisional “Daragh” Overprints, Revenue, Documentary, Proprietary, Wine and finally Hawaii and Philippines.

Do not miss our largest-ever Premier Graded Public Auction Sale #173 on Saturday August 23rd. This contains many of the highest grade available for items and will certainly please the most discriminating quality conscious collector.

Both of these auction sales can be viewed at our booths (1115 & 1117) at the APS convention in Hartford, CT., August 14-17th at the Hartford Convention Center, or by appointment at our offices. Please stop by and meet with us to discuss your specific needs. For those unable to attend, Postal Viewing can be arranged.

As always, we are dedicated to providing you the very best service and handling every detail to your complete satisfaction. Please let us know your needs so that we can properly fulfill and hopefully exceed your expectations.
We are still aggressively seeking individual stamps and collections of any size and content. I do not think that anyone sells more specialized and varied lots each year than Nutmeg does.

Thank you for your support and patronage, we look forward to servicing your philatelic needs. Please feel free to contact us toll-free at 800.522.1607 for queries or collections for outright purchase or auction consignment. When the time comes to sell, do not sell for less than market value, call us for a free market-value consultation and find out how to achieve the absolute best for your collection.

Sincerely,

David M. Coogle - President
Thomas N. Mills - Vice-President

Terms of Sale

  1. All bids are by lot numbers and by the proper bid increments. Current Scott and Foreign Catalogs are used for both price and reference when appropriate.
  2. All lots are awarded to the highest bidder at slightly over the second highest bid and may be based upon a reserve. Bid what you feel is necessary to secure the desired lot(s); your bid will be executed as competition allows. Limit bids are accepted if the bid total is more than you wish to spend. Give us your choice of lots in order and the dollar limit. Due to the work involved, limits of less than $150 are respectfully declined.
  3. A buyer’s premium of 15% will be added to all purchases.
  4. Successful bidders, who have established credit with us, will have lots and an invoice sent to them for payment. All other bidders must pay in advance upon receipt of invoice. Personal check, VISA or MasterCard (if supplied when bidding) may be used for your payment (if declined immediate payment is to be made); checks must clear before lots are sent. Title remains with Nutmeg until all invoices are Paid in Full. Risk of loss in transit shall be on the purchaser.
  5. All lots are genuine as described. In the event of a discrepancy, we must be notified within five days of receipt. An item with faults which is described as such, cannot be returned for any fault condition.
  6. No illustrated lots may be returned because of centering, margins, perforations or other factors shown in the illustrations.
  7. Covers, Postal History, Documents & Ephemera may include minor faults from postal transmission and/or reception. Minor file folds, aging, edge faults, light wrinkling or backflap damage are NOT grounds for return. Serious or unusual faults are described.
  8. Lots that contain more than 8 stamps/items may include small faults on a few of the lesser values. These are NOT noted in the descriptions and are therefore NOT reason for return.
  9. Stamps whose primary value is based upon the cancellation or postal marking may have small faults that will NOT be noted in the description and are NOT grounds for return.
  10. Successful bidders who wish to submit a lot for expertization must notify us in advance or within five days of receipt and the lot must be paid for. If a mutually acceptable expert finds a lot to be misdescribed, we will refund the full purchase price, plus the expert fee up to a maximum of $100. No lot or lots may be returned if altered. For all expertization Nutmeg will submit all lots to the appropriate authority. A certificate issued within the past 5 years is valid and returns will not be accepted upon re-submission of such item, nor any fees reimbursed.
  11. Connecticut residents will be subject to a 6% sales tax, unless resale number is on file.
  12. Insurance and postage will be added to the invoice.
  13. All 19th Century Unused stamps do not have Original Gum (OG) unless stated as such. All 20th century stamps have original gum unless otherwise stated.
  14. Telephone and FAX bids are accepted, but telephone bids must be followed by written confirmation.
  15. The placing of bids constitutes acceptance of the above terms.
