ROOSEVELT PROOF PRESENTATION ALBUM Small die proofs complete through Scott 313 in leatherbound Roosevelt Presentation Album, Imprinted in gold lettering on front cover "Julius C. Burrows", and on the spine of the book "United States Postage Stamps 1847-1902. Proofs"; One of the few remaining intact Roosevelt albums, as most of these albums have been broken up for specific sets for collectors; 24 gray album pages - with gold edges contains small die proofs arranged in geometric patterns as sets, including two each of #3-4 (one set labeled 1847, the other labeled 1876), First and last 1861, Various Bank Note, Columbians, 1894 Bureau, Trans-Mississippi, Pan-Americans, and 1902-03 Series, then the collection includes Special Deliveries, Postage Dues, Officials, Newspaper Stamps, and 6 from 1899 Cuba set, Then there are seven blank pages at the end intended for future issues, Finding a complete Roosevelt album in such a remarkable state of preservation is indeed rare, as this album is free of the numerous defects that tend to plague many of the remaining albums, such as warped pages, dented edges, and broken spines; The only obvious wear on this album are the few pages of interleaving that show signs of wear, which in no way affects the spectacular quality of the small die proofs they were intended to protect, A minimal amount of oxidation affects a few of the orange stamps throughout the album, such as #38P2, #71P2, 178P2, 229P2, and 310P2, this oxidation is much lighter than normally encountered, and can easily be fixed through restoration with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, The current Scott catalog value of these small die proofs is $63,365.00 - without any premium for the stamps being offered in an intact Roosevelt album, OF THE 85 ROOSEVELT PRESENTATION ALBUMS THAT WERE PREPARED IN 1903, ESTIMATES ARE THAT NO MORE THAN 20 INTACT ALBUMS REMAIN. SUDETENLAND POSTAL HISTORY. A very interesting range of covers virtually everything different and unquestionably some scarce items - even forerunners such as the Czech/German bilingual inscription for 'Bilina - Bilin' used the 12th June 1937 with 2 x 10ha and 1x30ha on cover sent to Berlin, then the campaign itself with Graetz with the striking red rectangular 'Tag Der Befreiung' 9th October 1938 sent to Brunn, also straight line Zoptau on cover internal usage with a German Hindenburg 12pf, also the same again with a straight line Boehmilsch Matha cancel. Also seen swastika negatives in double concentric circle used in Fulau sent to Zeitz with again Hindenburg stamp applied, accompanying this is Czech usage in 1939 without German postmarks. Also seen philatelically inspired joint Czech and Hindenburg Germany usage commemorating 'Nun sind wir Frei' with acknowledgement to Adolf Hitler for the 'liberation'. Further interesting commercial mail including German only company usage for companies based in Moravia, with fascinating oval cancels that we have never seen before. Also a range of Hitler defins used in the 1940s, in places such as Zauchtel/Osisudetenl, as well as Marianske Udoli/Marienthal etc. Also present anachronistically straight lines Rudig used in 1938, followed by a fascinating postal history item since Czech postage dues have been applied on the 7th November 1938 with 1kp blue and 60ha red on 2x6pf green Hindenburg, originating on a corporate letter sent on Hultschin, with straight line 'censurovano' applied. A similar cover with postage dues sent from Nikolsburg to Olmnitz in 1938, again showing this was not a seamless transition from the former Czechoslovakian state through to the Sudentenland and the creation of Bohemia and Moravia under the German Protectorate. Further postal history with an array of postmarks colored, fancy, ovals, concentric circles, swastikas, Nazi, endorsements including unfolded eagles and yet more that we have not seen before in this very intriguing collection that has been thoughtfully assembled over the years. Another particularly nice item was the Slovenska Posta pictorial card used in Ruzemberok sent to Ostmarka, with eagle and swastika in circles on roll over cancel, disclosing that censor mail was still applicable between the two parts of the former countries. Other interesting areas include Feldpost used on Czechslovakian postal history, as well as of course important forerunners used in 1948 on Czech stamp applied. Also seen 'Wir sind Frei' o/ps on stamps on map postal history showing how the absorption of Czechslovakia occurred with its different borders, fascinating stuff. This collector also has 'Wir sind Frei' o/ps on stamps. It is the postal history that is the best part by far, with well over 70 items including many exhibition pieces. A most enjoyable lot to view.Est. $1500-2000
