FRANCE

FRANCE COLLECTION 1849-2005 assembled into three Scott Specialty albums beginning with a handful of early Ceres, Emperor Napoleon issues and continuing into the early 20th century with used examples. From about 1925 to 1960 the collection is nearly complete both mint and used mounted in the same album space and including several better mint items such as 1923 Bordeaux Philatelic Congress, 1925 Paris Exhibition S/S, 1929 LeHavre Exposition, and 1937 PEXIP S/S. The second album is exclusively mint NH containing issues through 2005 while the third album contains the Semi-postal, airmails and other BOB material plus a section of French Offices. The Semi-postal section is virtually complete lacking only the 1917 5F top value for total completion and also includes the 1930 Smile of Reims booklet pane of four. Continuing into the Airmail section which is also virtually complete, we note the 1927 First Airmail set as well as all the 1936 issues; Plane over Paris set, 50F Banknote issue and South Atlantic Flight set (2). Condition is quite mixed on the early 19th century issues, however, the 20th century section contains the vast majority of the value and here the condition is generally Fine-VF with much NH material. Truly, a very worthwhile collection.Est. $7000-9000

FRENCH COLONIES

3530

FRENCH COLONIES COLLECTION 1900-1975 two large cartons containing fifteen Scott Specialty albums plus three other albums and two stockbooks of used duplicates. The first two volumes house both a mint and a used collection of Monaco with most of the value in the used album. The next thirteen Scott albums house the main French Colony collection which is similar to the Monaco in that it is often represented by both a mint and a parallel used collection from Algeria through Togo. In general, the colonial period is well represented, however, many of the long sets are incomplete. Nonetheless, there are many worthwhile items. For example, we noted most of the 1939 French Revolution sets with a few NH sets, most notably St Pierre &: Miquelon. The single strongest country is French Andorra which is very nearly complete from the first set through 1975. In addition to the first set both the 1932 and 1949 sets are present as is the 1955 Airmail set (NH) and finally the 1932 Postage Due set (Sismondo certificate). We also noted other better mint sets such French Antarctic 1963 Quiet Sun set, French Equatorial Africa 1936 Overprinted set, and Comoro 1967 Imperf Bird set. Besides the colonial period, the collection continues through about 1980 with Independent Africa and Cambodia as well as recent Comoro Islands, St Pierre &: Miquelon and Wallis &: Futuna. The independent Africa is an especially strong section and there are also better items such as Cambodia 1952 Booklet, Central Africa 1967 and Congo Republic 1970 Mushroom sets and Dahomey 1969 Parcel Post set. No matter which Specialty album you review first, you will discover a wealth of material in the $25 to $50 range with significant value in every book.Est. $7000-10000

INDO-CHINA

3545

VALUABLE INDO-CHINA COLLECTION consisting of three volumes of mostly used stamps plus seven volumes of covers. The cover collection is quite extensive with several hundred items and represents most of the value. The most fascinating volume of covers contains about 50 Military mail covers from about 1885 to 1901 including fieldpost and seapost cancels. Most of these Military covers are free franks and among them we noted one with a "Corps d'occupation du Tonkin" framed backstamp mailed from Tonkin to Rouen France dated 1899. The next two volumes display about 200 picture postcards circa 1900 to 1910 depicting Vietnamese and Cambodians in native dress (or undress as the case may be) as well as famous landmarks, landscapes and river life in the Mekong delta. A wide range of covers and entires fill the next several volumes representing the period from late 19th century through 1940. The majority are addressed to France with some to Europe and a handfull to the United States including over 100 items from the 1930s with preponderance of these being Airmail covers though we also noted Registered covers and postal stationery. Finally, there are three volumes of mostly used stamps including a collection in a Scott Specialty album, though most of the value is found in a fairly complete collection on blank pages. In order to fully appreciate the depth and breadth of this collection, this should be one of your "must see" collections.Est. $10000-15000

BAVARIA POSTAL HISTORY COLLECTION of about 375 items filling five binders. The vast majority are picture post cards from the 1890s to about 1918. In fact, one entire binder contains only picture post cards for Bavarian fairs starting with the 1898 Munich World's Fair followed by the 1904 Nurnberg Festival and 1906 Bavarian Stamp Show among other fairs. The next volume contains only postal stationery including privately printed cards with many of these being picture post cards featuring German royalty, castles and palaces. Another volume continues into the early 20th century and includes a few WWII patriotic cards showing wounded soldiers, battle scenes and military heroes of German history. Finally, there is one volume of mostly covers instead of cards that begins with one or two stampless followed by envelopes franked with the issues of the early 1860s through the early 20th century issues. This volume contains much of the value of the collection with items in the $20 to $100 range. GERMANY AND AREA COVER COLLECTION many hundreds of covers arranged by theme in sixteen binders. The most interesting binder contains a collection of about 20 German colony and offices abroad postal cards and picture post cards. Most of the latter are multi-colored "Gruss aus" cards such as "Gruss aus Togo" and in addition to these there are two Real Photo cards. One of these depicts dead elephants in German East Africa and the other shows tribeswomen. Another interesting section is Third Reich propaganda cards filling several volumes. Many of these cards are artist signed and feature either "heroes of the Third Reich" such as General Rommel or ordinary soldiers, sailors and seamen. Many other cards of this period depict Hitler and other political figures while another group are event covers for various exhibitions or stamp shows. The next volume contains mail from the 1930s and 1940s selected as "Einzelfranatur" and include some rather scarce usages. This book is followed by a volume of pre-WWI German Empire covers along with some German States material while another very interesting section contains WWI battleships with a submarine or two with many of these featuring "seepost" cancels and finally there is a volume of post-WWII Allied Occupation covers including a number of censored mail covers. Altogether, a valuable collection that took years to assemble and many of these items retail in the $50 to $100 range with some substantially higher.Est. $10000-15000

GERMANY HOLDING This gentleman who never became a full time dealer was going to take this to Euroland to sell in Germany. However we can do this for him and get the benefit of 2 world class markets, the Harmers way. This is very much a last minute 11th hour entry which represents a box full of good collections bought over several years, privately and in auction. Virtually all areas of Germany are here and no doubt it would make a very good mail sale or of course marketing on the internet, with hundreds of individual auction lots, as well as many good collections for their respective areas. No time at all for more description except to say our valuation is very conservative and this is a must-sell instruction. Now Īgo figure!ā as this is an excellent opportunity for a dealer looking to make money in the German market, requiring not that much workEst. $10000-14000

GERMANY AND ASSOCIATED AREAS COLLECTION this last minute entry is as the title suggests a very comprehensive collection, encompassing virtually every area of german philately with nearly everything used (so much better), housed in eight albums mostly Lighthouse representing everything area above, all one of a kind with 90% completion with relatively few empty spaces. In short, a very impressive collection with the 20th cent having a far higher rate of completion than the 19th. Broadly this would be ideal for a collector looking for an excellent foundation save mostly rarities, or for a dealer to replenish stocks inexpensively in a Īturn-keyā format, as these collections are all easily displayed, page for page, series for series. There will also be of course reference copies present yet not many as this collector had a good eye for quality and authenticity. A quick 'flick' will tell most of the story, it is obviously a very good collectorās collection needing not that much to take it, by Scott standards at least, to near completion. A much recommended viewing.Est. $4000-5000

For example the 1933 Opera set is mint while the 1934 Workers set is used and finally the 1931 Polar Flight set is unused (no gum). GERMANY COLLECTION ćI have the simplest of tastesāā said Oscar Wilde ćI like nothing but the bestä! Well this would apply in this instance too, providing Oscar didnāt mind some hinging!. Not in every case but for the earlier years there is hinging on the Exportmesse Hannover m/s of 1949. However the castle series is complete to the 5 Dm and is never hinged, as are the nh pair of currency sheets, both perf and imperf of 1946 for Berlin. This continues through to the posthorns of 1951 which are complete, hinged. There are many of the other series of that period nevertheless mint never hinged! We have not had time to turn back the transparent hawid strips for all the series and it is not clearly not consistent chronologically for hinging. Also seen rather unusal strips of 5 of the Heuss numbered coils firstly the 10pf to 40pf series and then the 5pf to 70pf series both complete all strips never hinged. This collection makes for a very pleasant viewing with no empty spaces and significant extras as well, no doubt listed in Michel, well worth close inspection.Est. $1200-1500

VALUABLE USED GERMANY AND GERMAN AREA COLLECTION housed in four old albums including one Lighthouse, an old Kabe and two old Schaubek albums, and despite the scruffy appearance of the albums, the contents are, indeed, worthwhile. The first album holds the German Offices and Colonies collection which is somewhat scattered, though value is found in the Occupation issues of WWI for Belgium, France and Romania along with some better WWII issues of the General Government. The next album houses the German States and German area collection which has a strong section of Bavaria and Wurttemburg with a well-filled section of Prussia and other scattered German States, the strength of this album lies in German area including a very respectable collection of Danzig that includes 1924 Scenic Views set, 1926 Charity set, 1932 Airmail Exhibit set, 1934 Airmail Overprint set and then a section of Allenstein, Memel and Marienwerder. The third album contains the main Germany collection and the real heart of the collection beginning with a strong showing of the Small and Large Shields that are nearly complete followed closely by the 1874 Overprint set and the 1900 5M Type II, the inflation period is very well-filled as is the Nazi period of the 1930s and 1940s that includes a virtually complete section of the Charity issues of the period such as 1923-24 Charity sets, the 1930-32 Scenic Views Charity sets, 1933 Opera and 1934 Workers sets along with the highlights of the collection in the form of the Souvenir Sheets of the period, namely the 1930 IPOSTA S/S, 1933 Nothilfe S/S (creased) and 1935 OSTROPA S/S (faulty), the next section is a virtually complete group of the Airmail issues including all the Zeppelin sets and then finally the 1945 Storm Trooper set (not signed). The final album contains the occupation issues for the Soviet, French and British &: American Zones beginning with the 1949 Goethe S/S, 1946 Stamp Exhibit S/S set and 1949 Hannover S/S along with the 1948 Overprints from the British &: American Zones, and finally the collection concludes with a section of French Saar. A full appreciation of the depth of this collection can only be obtained by the devotion of a block of time for viewing.Est. $5000-7500
